Born on June 18, 1922 in the Ukraine, Marie was the eldest daughter of Johann and Susanna Kroeker. The family emigrated to Manitoba Canada where she helped care for her father’s patients and became an accomplished seamstress. Mom met the love of her life in 1936, however she did not marry Peter until 1954. Together they had 2 children Susan (Brian) Kaye and Peter John (Linda). Her family of love grew with 3 grandsons Jason, Jeremy and Jonathan Kaye and 2 granddaughters Kate-Lynn and Emma Dirks. Her 6 great grandchildren will remember her warm hugs and everyone will remember Tante Mary’s smile. She had a servant heart and was an active member of the church choir and the Frauen Verein. When she retired her treadle sewing machine it was sent to a mission school in Haiti to sew many items needed after the earthquake. The family wishes to thank the staff at Tabor Manor second floor, for their love and support. In her 96th year Marie has gone home to be with her parents, her brothers George and Hans, and sisters Susan, Joanne and Sonja (adopted).
The family will meet friends at Niagara United Mennonite Church, 1775 Niagara Stone Road NOTL on Monday February 5, 2018 from 2 pm to 6 pm. Marie’s funeral will be held in the same church on Tuesday February 6 at 10:30 am. A fellowship lunch will be held at Bethany Mennonite Church on East West Line following her interment at Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery. Donations to MCC or a charity of your choice.
