Clarisse Marie Yvette Rose-Alma Burton

Obituary of Clarisse Marie Yvette Rose Alma Burton (Lamarre)

Clarisse passed away suddenly on Tuesday January 18, 2022, at the United Mennonite Home in Vineland, ON. Clarisse was born on September 27, 1938, in Montreal, where she lived until she met and married the love of her life, Douglas (Doug) Burton on April 29, 1961. Clarisse and Doug began their married life in Germany and enjoyed weekend camping trips to neighbouring countries for the four years of Doug’s posting.  Upon returning to Canada, Clarisse enjoyed a rewarding career as an administrator in various government organizations and ended her career working as a coordinator of the English as a Second Language Program at Brock University. With Doug at her side, Clarisse enjoyed a long retirement that included international travel, community volunteering, and spending time with friends and her growing family.

Clarisse was an administrative powerhouse who thrived on committing good works. She was an active member of St. Helen Parish and served terms as Secretary and President of the Catholic Women’s League.  As a board member of Community Care of West Niagara, Clarisse focused her organizational fervour on helping to feed the community through the delivery of Christmas hampers to those in need in the late 80s. Clarisse was a silent but committed advocate for equality in the workplace and women’s financial independence.

Clarisse will be profoundly missed by her husband Doug, her son, Richard (Donna), and her daughter Linda (Gary). Her three granddaughters, Madeleine (23), Cadence (19), and Jacqueline (18) were the apples of her eye and will deeply grieve their grand-maman’s loss.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 24 at 11:00am at St. Helen Catholic Church, 4106 Mountain St., Beamsville, Ontario with reception to follow at the Tallman Fireside Room.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or to St. Helen Catholic Church in Beamsville, Ontario.
