Obituary of Jeanne Culp

CULP, Jeanne Adell (nee Shantz) - The family sadly announces her peaceful passing at The Orchards, Vineland, on July 11, 2013. Born in New Dundee, Ontario, on November 30, 1922, daughter of Walter C. Shantz and Selina (Sherk) Shantz. Predeceased by her husband George H. Culp in 1983. Survived by her son Ralph and Jane Culp; and by her daughter Carolyn and John Hay; grandchildren, Victoria and Hilary Culp and Graham and Kiersten Hay. Sister of Lorna Bergey (2009, David), Ken Shantz (2011, Marie), Wilbur Shantz (Kay), Joanne Hunsberger, Clyde Shantz (1960, Vaughn), Kathryn Leatherman and Beth Good (Paul). A graduate of the first Registered Nursing Assistant Program in Ontario, she left the family farm for Vineland to help in the fruit harvest where she met her future husband. Well-known as an avid gardener and quilter; and affectionately known as "The Cheese Lady" for many years at the St. Catharines Downtown Market. Her love and compassion for the sick and elderly was evident in her provision of in-home nursing care in earlier years and in friendly visits and extensive letter-writing in later years. She was a longtime member of the First Mennonite Church of Vineland; her faith has taken her home. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at the VINELAND CHAPEL of the TALLMAN FUNEAL HOMES, 3277 King St. on Sunday 2-4 and 7-8:30 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at First Mennonite Church, 3557 Rittenhouse Road, Vineland on Monday, July 15th at 2 pm. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Mennonite Central Committee would be appreciated by the family.
