Obituary of Dorothy Ellen Taylor

Taylor, Dorothy Ellen (nee Kemp)

March 12, 1921 – March 3, 2018

With loved ones at her side and her own voice singing on a CD, Dorothy Taylor passed away at Heritage Place in Virgil, Ontario on Saturday, March 3, 2018 just short of her 97th birthday.  Her memories will live on in the hearts of her children: Reginald (Judy) Taylor of Chase B.C.; Darlene Taylor of Scottsdale, Arizona; Wanda (Terry) Nord of Niagara on the Lake, Ontario; Kenneth (Barbara) Taylor of Yelm, Washington along with 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.  Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Basil (Bob) Alexander Taylor (1989), her parents David Kemp and Elizabeth (Hiscock) Kemp; her sisters Alice and Phyllis; her brothers Tom, John and Al.

Dorothy grew up at the family farm “Deep Ravine” in St. Adolphe, Manitoba where she was schooled at the local convent.  Her musical career started as family entertainment and continued with her and her father entertaining in the local communities, singing and playing the guitar while her dad sang and played the violin.  Her passion for music continued in the church, on radio and television talent shows and song writing throughout her life.  Dorothy’s creativity was evident in her painting of the wonders of nature, and she was always willing to explore; her travels included Europe, USA and Hawaii.  After retiring from a 29 year career at the Lethbridge Municipal Hospital, Dorothy moved to Chase B.C. and subsequently to Niagara on the Lake.  She embraced the community, enjoying Upper Canada Lodge Adult Day Program, attending church and enjoying many social events.  A special thank you to Dr. Karen Berti for her exceptional care and support; the staff of Heritage Place for their commitment to Dorothy’s comfort and to the staff of Pleasant Manor.

A service of celebration will be held at Oakview Chapel, Pleasant Manor, Elden St., Virgil on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
