Gene was born August 31, 1930, on Cape Breton Island. He came to Ontario in 1945, working first at Canada Hair Cloth and then Lincoln County Roads Department. He met the love of his life and married Arlene (Mewhiney) June 8, 1957. Gene retired from the Region in 1992. His retirement years were spent with his family, especially enjoying various sports events with his grandsons and, of course, his summers in Cape Breton fishing with his brother Al. He is survived by his daughter Kim (Lorne); grandsons Kyle and Bryce Sanford; brother Al (Marion) and extended family. Predeceased by his wife Arlene ("Toad") June 29, 2010, brother Bill and sister Evelyn. Also survived by brothers-in-law, Walt and George and sisters-in-law, Vi, Rene and Marie. The family will receive friends at the VINELAND CHAPEL of the TALLMAN FUNERAL HOMES, 3277 King St. on Sunday 2-4 and 7-8:30 pm. The Funeral Service will be held in the Tallman Chapel on Monday, June 10th at 11 am, followed by interment at Vineland Cemetery. Please join the family in celebration of Gene's life following the service at the Tallman Fireside Room. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Linhaven or Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family. Sincere thanks to the staff at Linhaven for the loving way they cared for Dad during his stay there, as well as to all our friends and family.
