Walter Dyck

Obituary of Walter Dyck

It is with sadness but deep gratitude for a long, full life, that we announce the passing of Walter Dyck on August 18th at the Greater Niagara General Hospital in his ninety-first year. He leaves behind his loving wife Helen, and his children Sharon (Roger) Agler, Wendy Dubeau (Steve Hassan), Tim (Debbie) Dyck and Sheldon (Sheila) Dyck. He was grandfather to Kathryn Agler, Hannah Agler, Nicolas Dubeau, Sara Dubeau (Brent), Rachel Dubeau (Chris), Melissa Schaus (Brent), Stephanie Carey (Rob), Andrea Beattie (Matt), Nolan Dyck (Beth), Emily Lee (Gabriel) and Miriam Dyck. He was also great grandfather to four great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by Minnie, his wife of 52 years, in 2003 and his wife, Norma, in 2007. Walt and Minnie lived most of their lives in Niagara Falls, where they raised their family. To quote a friend of his, Walter was an “original issue.” He took a keen interest in the lives of others and loved listening to their stories. His long career of over 50 years at Niagara Motors in Virgil allowed him many opportunities to do so. It seemed that wherever he went, he met someone to whom he had sold a car.

Walt enjoyed games of aim and precision such as horseshoes, ping pong and crokinole. He liked to tell jokes, had a real sweet tooth and demonstrated an incredible passion for being neat. Walt’s Christian faith was vital to him. He was very involved in the life of his church. He had a rich baritone voice and enjoyed singing solos, harmonizing in quartets and leading in worship. He also participated in various leadership roles within the church. He was confident that this “light and momentary affliction” that he was experiencing was indeed “preparing him for an eternal weight of glory.” (1 Corinthians 4:17)

The family will receive friends at the Vineland Chapel of the Tallman Funeral Homes, 3277 King St. on Thursday, August 23rd from 6-8pm and on Friday, August 24th from 10-11am prior to the service at 11am. A reception will take place following the service. Interment will follow at the Niagara Lake Shore Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Pleasant Manor or a charity of your choice.
