Obituary of Terence Michael Slaven

Slaven, Terence Michael - At the age of 94, passed away, Thursday, August 23, 2018 at St. Catharines General Hospital. Terry was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, June 21, 1924 and was one of 9 children. He served in the Royal British Navy in WWII as an Able Seaman Mechanic.  He met his beautiful bride, Joan Sweeney, in Glasgow. Terry and Joan would have celebrated 60 years of marriage when Joan passed in 2009. Following the war, Terry’s dream was to find a better place to raise his family and that dream took him to Canada in 1952; followed by his bride and infant son.After a short while, Terry discovered his passion for carpentry and home building. He built a business and raised 5 children while building the homes they lived in. In his spare time he loved being on the golf course; a passion him and Joan loved to share and was especially proud to pass on his learnings to his 5 children.

Terry is survived by his sons, Jim & wife Marli, Terry & wife Lori, Mike & wife Gail; daughter Senga & partner, Colin; grandchildren, Michelle, Stephanie, Michael, Evan & Brandy; Sister Mary Best in Scotland; great grandchildren, 2 brother-in-law’s and numerous nieces and nephews. Terry was preceded in death by his daughter Maggie and son-in-law Paul.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 11:30 am at the Vineland Chapel of Tallman Funeral Homes, 3277 King St. Vineland followed by a light lunch and refreshments. In order to show our gratitude for Terry’s care, memorial donations can be made to the “Friends of Linhaven”.
