Obituary of Emma Irene Carlson

CARLSON, Emma Irene (Stitt) - May 31, 1926 - October 29, 2018

Wife of the late Everett Carlson (2005) and dear mother of Carla Carlson (Kevin Herring), Linnea Hansen (Barry and sons, Joshua and Daniel), Laurianne Carlson (died 1997) Ken Albu (Nancy, Ken's second wife) and Ken and Laurianne's son Japheth, step grandchildren, Darrik (Cailyn) and Erika Smith and son in law Tom Ferguson. Sister of John Stitt (Betty), both predeceased. Also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Emma forever counted her blessings in the amazing friends who helped her and without whom she would not have been able to stay on her beloved "DeCew Place" acre after her loving husband of 49 years, Everett, died. Her eternal love and grateful thanks is with neighbours Corrine and Gary Burnet, Alan Griffiths, and Brian and Marg Stapley, her "adopted" daughter Debbe and granddaughter Alicia Liddycoat. Mary and John Potter and many others were among so many kind and generous people that kept Emma's life full of activities and friendship and we will always remember their thoughtfulness.

Emma was an environmentalist and recycler before the words were coined. Her greatest joy came from her organic gardens, eating locally as a commitment to our local farmers...talking to anyone that would listen about not paving over her sacred Tender Fruit Belt. Emma had come to Niagara four summers as a Farmerette during World War II and her heart and soul's desire was the protection of our farmland.A lasting legacy, Emma was so very happy that she, her family and community were able to save the Richmond Street Forest behind her home, from development.

To all who knew her, Emma will be dancing in the great beyond with Everett and walking our sweet golden retriever Cedar along peach tree lined lanes...two 92-year-olds (one in dog years), getting a kick out of still being able to walk together, as she did every day here in Vineland Station.

Cremation. An Irish Wake will be held on DeCew Road in Thorold on Friday, November 2nd from 6-9 pm with a scattering of ashes and poetry reading at 8 pm. Please call Carla at 905-562-3746 if you would like to attend.
