Obituary of Janice Short

SHORT (Parkin),JAN - Dec 10,1949-Dec 1,2018. peacefully at home with her beloved Kerry, husband of 45 years, at her side. Jan was a true Renaissance woman. There was almost nothing she couldn’t do well from cooking to painting, from sports to decorating. Everything she did was infused with her fathomless imagination and her incredible energy. She made every day better with her warm smile, her goofy sense of humour and her steadfast belief in the goodness of people. Her generosity and deep compassion were unsurpassed. She went out of her way to make sure others felt appreciated and in doing so, she was loved by everyone who knew her. Her love for her family was deep and fierce. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for us. We all knew that if we needed her, she was just a phone call away. She would drop everything and come, across the street or across the country. She wanted to be of use, whether it was to babysit or paint a bedroom or just listen. It is a rare and beautiful thing for someone to care more about others than they do about themselves. Jan would help anyone and everyone, from the homeless person on the street to the child who was lost in the mall. And she did it without forethought and without hesitation. She just wanted to make everyone’s day that much brighter and she touched everyone she interacted with her love and her light. She was the most uniquely wonderful human being and we feel unbelievably lucky to have had her as a wife, a mother, an aunt, a sister and a grandma. She was taken from us far too soon and the hole in our hearts will never be filled. She will be missed forever by husband, Kerry, daughter, Meredith (David), son Adam (Krista) and brothers Glenn (Carol) and Jamie as well as many in-laws, nephews and nieces. She also leaves behind the lights of her life, her grandchildren, Kieran, Alex, Veronica and Georgia.

The family will receive friends at the Vineland Chapel of Tallman Funeral Homes, 3277 King Street on Friday, December 7, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m.  Funeral service in the chapel on Saturday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. with interment following in St. John’s Cemetery, Jordan.  Please wear something purple in remembrance of Jan.  It was her favourite colour.  If desired, memorial donations to Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated.
