Obituary of Margaret Lorraine Simpson

Simpson, Margaret Lorraine - It is with sad hearts that we say good bye to Margaret Lorraine Simpson, 94, of St Catharines, ON. She passed away on April 26th, 2019 at Niagara Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer.

Margaret was born on April 8th, 1925 to the late Arthur & Emma Ashmore. She grew up in Toronto where she achieved a degree in bio-chemistry at U of T. She worked for several years for Canada Dept of Agriculture in Vineland Station and it was here that she met her husband and best friend, Charlie Simpson. Margaret then obtained her teaching degree & taught Chemistry, Physics & Biology at Lakeport Secondary School in St Catharines. Margaret loved to sew & paint. Both Margaret & Charlie were very active in the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society and after Charlie retired, they were able to spend over 30 winters in Largo FL. doing what they loved most. They travelled and gained many close friends through the RSCDS.

Margaret was predeceased by Charles in 2015 after 64 years of marriage as well as her son Jon McLaughlin Simpson in 2004 of Grand Rapids MI. She is survived by her daughter Karen Konkle (Ted) of Beamsville and by her grandchildren, Jessica Konkle (Steve) of St Catharines, Jordan Simpson of Grand Rapids MI, Ashley Julien (Shawn) of Caledonia MI, Amanda Vandermeulen (Chad) of Jenison MI and 5 beloved great grandchildren as well as her sister Dr Shirley O’Reilly, brother in law Crawford Simpson and nephew Brian Simpson (Joanne).

The family would like to extend a very special Thank you to the staff & volunteers at Hospice Niagara. They will forever have our warmest gratitude. Words will not convey how deeply their caring comfort is appreciated.

Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 2-4pm at the Fireside Room of Tallman Funeral Homes, 3277 King St Vineland on Saturday June 15th, 2019.

In Lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to Hospice Niagara.
