Mary Whiteley

Obituary of Mary Whiteley

Mary (Dyck) Whiteley

It saddens us to announce the passing of Mary (Dyck) Whiteley on December 29, 2020 in her sleep.  Mary leaves behind her children, David Whiteley, Chris (Kathy) Whiteley and Leslie (Ken) Hildebrand, grandchildren, Chantel Bain, Justin Whiteley, Taylor Whiteley, Kenny Hildebrand, Eric Hildebrand (Meghan) and William Hildebrand and sister Anne Lawson.  Predeceased by her son Robert in 1993.  Born in Osterwick, Manitoba on March 29, 1930 to parents Peter and Justina Dyck.  Mary along with her siblings Frank, Elizabeth (Beth) and Anne, lived on a farm in Glen Cairn, Manitoba until July 13, 1946 when the family moved to a farm on the Grimsby escarpment – on Ridge Road East.  Mary worked from a young age, on the family farm.  Once she was older Mary worked in the Canning Factory, Basket Factory and distillery in Grimsby before getting a job at McKinnons in St. Catharines where she met her future husband Eldon Whiteley.  In June 25, 1950, Mary married Eldon and moved to Rockway, just outside of St. Catharines.  Mary then took on the role of mother to David, Robert, Christopher and Leslie.  Mary was always involved in the community or with Eldon at Masonic Lodge or just having fun at dances being social.  Mary was a very good seamstress honing her skills from a young age with her sister Beth making dresses for whatever occasion or her children.  Mary liked to be involved in various activities or crafts, painting was a passion as well but she loved her grandchildren the most.   A woman with a unique sense of humor and a kind heart for others, she will truly be missed.

We would like to thank the nursing staff at Westpark Community for taking care of Mom for all these years, bless you everyone!  A private family funeral has been planned.  If so desired donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association are appreciated.
