Obituary of Katharine Ann Barrett

KATHARINE ANN BARRETT (1962 – 2021)

It is with a mixture of sorrow and solace that we share the passing of Katharine Barrett, on January 27, 2021. While we lament and grieve the passing of our beloved mother, wife and friend, we also celebrate the life she lived and the peace she has now found.

Katharine Ann Barrett (born Katharine Jewell) was born in Ajax, Ontario on May 13, 1962 to William and Joan Jewell. She was the first of three children, sister to Karen and Kevin.

Katharine lived her life radiating love. For those of us who had the privilege to know her in this life, our lives were brighter because of her presence. Throughout her life she pursued many passions, including authoring two books, and she found joy in raising her kids and walking through life with her husband whom she deeply loved.

Katharine leaves behind to mourn and to cherish her memory, her husband David and her 4 children: Meaghan, Hannah, Emily, and Evan.

No matter what season of life Katharine found herself in — whether joy-filled moments or hard times in the throws of battling cancer — two things always remained deeply true for her. There is grace for the journey, giving us hope and belonging, and a love that stretches beyond this world, comforting us in our deepest troubles and calling us to something greater.

“I am not content to exist. I will settle for nothing less than to spend my days experiencing the crazy, unconditional, beautiful, all-encompassing, Love of the Spirit who breathes life into me…”
