Obituary of Florence Mary Asma

Florence passed away peacefully on March 5, 2021 at Albright Manor in the town of Beamsville at the age of 89.

Wife of the late Ronald Asma, mother of Russell Asma, Ruth Asma Gagné, Jamie Asma,  Nancy Asma Hanratty, grandmother of Tyler, Isaac, Jacob, Paige, Braden, great grandmother of Callan.

Florence was born in Ethelbert Manitoba and was raised in the Winnipeg area by her parents Mary and Steve Ratkowski.  It was in the 1950's that the family moved to the Toronto Ontario locale to start another chapter of their lives.

Eventually Florence ended up in the beautiful quiet town of Grimsby in 1964 where she raised her family and made many new friends in the neighborhood and at her place of worship, the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.  Together with her good friend Joyce Podwinski, they had a unique dynamic for enjoying and figuring out life.  A special thanks to you Joyce for the time and effort you extended in visiting our Mother during her time of infirmity at Albright.  Poor memory or not, your name was always on the tip of her tongue which then brought a smile to her face. Thanks also to the friends from her congregation that were able to visit her from time to time.

Florence loved music and was a fairly advanced piano player.  Many a time our family listened to her tackle some pretty difficult pieces like Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin. She was also interested in the art of pencil sketching and petit point embroidery. She was also an accomplished cook!

Florence moved to Albright Manor in Beamsville in August of 2016 due to failing health.  Even though she was experiencing mild dementia and Parkinsons,  she functioned exceptionally well, and zoomed all over the complex with her walker.  She expressed on so many occasions that she really liked her new home.  She especially loved the food!

The staff always commented on how pleasant Florence was and it's noteworthy as to the high level of care and attention they gave her.  Our family would like to thank Albright Manor's administration, her personal physician Dr. Ahmed, her nurse Brandy, all of the PSW's and the cleaning staff for making our mothers home enjoyable and safe.

Florence had a wonderful life, and we will miss her always.
