Christina Dick

Obituary of Christina Dick

Dick, Christina - Christina Dick peacefully passed away on Thursday September 9, 2021, shy of her 96th birthday, at her home at Pleasant Manor, Virgil. Christina was born October 17,1925 in Colonsay, Saskatchewan to Gerhard and Anna Berg (nee Matthies). She was the 4th of 10 children. She moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake at age 21. At that time, she did housework for a St.Catharines family and shortly after was employed by MacKinnons (now known as General Motors) and worked there until she got married.

She met her future husband, Jake (Abner) Dick, at Niagara United Mennonite Church and were married October 7, 1950. They moved to a 50 acre farm on Line 3 where they raised their family. Four children were born here; Dennis, Bob, Anne Marie and Bill. Christina worked hard on the farm and even harder when Jake was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Mom stayed at home until she was 86. Her greatest joy was helping care for her grandchildren. Monthly family gatherings at Mom’s revolved around her delicious Mennonite dishes. In 2011, Bill went into full care at Pleasant Manor and Mom moved into an apartment there to be close to him.

Predeceased by her husband Jake 1984, her son Dennis 2020 and a granddaughter Amy Marie 1980.

Dearly loved mother of Bob (Annie), Anne Marie (Brian), Bill and daughter-in-law Shirley. Loving Grandma to Anna, Sara, Emma; Kaitlin (Jordan), Greg (Sarah) and Christina; Jake (Angie) and Denise (Colin) and great grandmother to Haylee, Benjamin, Connor, William, Ellie, Jake, Emberley and Brooklyn.

Many thanks to the excellent staff at Pleasant Manor for their compassionate care and support during her last days. A special thanks to Dr. Karen Berti for her dedication and devotion to our mother.

Following Covid-19 protocols, the family will receive friends on Monday, September 13 from 4pm-6pm at Bethany Mennonite Church (East/West Line). Graveside service will be Tuesday, September 14 at 10:00am at Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to Bethany Mennonite Church or Radiant Care/Pleasant Manor.
