Justina Schellenberg

Obituary of Justina Schellenberg

Justina Schellenberg (1922 – 2021)

SCHELLENBERG, JUSTINA made her final journey home on Monday, November 8th just 8 days shy of her 99th birthday. Justina leaves to grieve her sister-in-law Irene Schellenberg her nieces and nephews Linda, David (Lisa), Joanne (Jim), John (Barb) and their children and grandchildren. Justina was joyfully reunited in heaven with her parents Jacob and Justina Schellenberg, and her four brothers Jacob, John, George and Edwin.

Justina was born in Chortitza, Russia and emigrated to Canada when she was 8 months old in 1923. She grew up in Saskatchewan and spent her life living and working on the family farm. In 1941 she was baptized and she remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life.

Justina loved music! She was often heard singing songs while working in the kitchen or sitting in her chair. She was a self-taught musician who served the Hanley Mennonite Church as their organist for more than 40 years.

Justina had a heart full of love that she shared with everyone. Strangers often commented on how sweet, kind and caring her nature was. Her move to Ontario in 2014 provided her family the wonderful opportunity of being the recipients of this love; it is a gift that we all treasure and will miss.

A celebration of Justina’s life will take place at Bethany Mennonite Church 572 East and West Line, Niagara-on-the-Lake on Saturday November 13th at 11am. Visitation will take place prior to the service beginning at 10am.

The service will be live streamed at https://youtu.be/gJ8nIOGGjcE

Justina will be laid to rest in Hanley Saskatchewan in December.

In memory of Justina, donations can be made to Mennonite Central Committee.

O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; His mercy endures forever!  (Psalm 118:29)
