William Kamps

Obituary of William Richard Kamps

William Richard Kamps was taken home to glory in the arms of his Saviour on April 22, 2022, a few days shy of his 66thbirthday. Predeceased by his little brother Timmy (in 1966), he leaves behind his mother Audrey vanKeulen, wife Jetty, son Tim (Marieke), daughter Stephanie Ormel (Greg), son Marcel (Safaa), daughter Danielle Kretz (Andrew), and son Paul (Loren). He will be remembered fondly by his grandchildren Liam, Jacob, Davis, Keira, Jasmine, Leah, Aaron, Emma, Mason, and Baby Girl Kretz.

Bill will be dearly missed by his brother Richard (Phyllis), sisters Annette, Audrey, Wilma, sister-in-law Els, brothers-in-law David and Robert (Chris), father and mother-in-law Jeanne and Peter vanAtten, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was born on April 27, 1956, to John and Audrey Kamps. He is well-known for being larger than life – literally. At 6 foot 8 inches, he laughingly declared himself to be the “biggest sinner in church” and the “biggest customer” in every store he entered. He poured himself into the greenhouse he started in 1993 and built it into a successful operation that he passed onto his 3 sons.

Nothing brought him more joy than enjoying a cold beer around a cribbage table after a great morning fishing on the lake. He was blessed to have many opportunities to do this up north in Lavigne and Bisco, on many guys fishing trips, and at his cottage in Laniel, QC. Other than growing hydrangeas, playing cards, and fishing, Bill’s passion and heart were focused on his faith. He was dedicated to the study of the Word and was involved with the South Niagara Life Ministries for many years.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 26 from 6-9pm at Tallman Funeral Home, 3277 King Street, Vineland; the funeral service will take place on Wednesday, April 27 at 11am at Southridge Community Church, 3970 Glendale Ave., Vineland. A private family interment will be held prior to the service.
