Obituary of Jacob Hildebrandt

Peacefully at home in Virgil, Jacob Hildebrandt passed away to be with the Lord in the early hours of Saturday , August 13, 2022, at the age of 91.

 

Born on December 27, 1930 in the Ukraine.

 

Beloved husband of Tina (Katharina) , father of Vera (Dave), George, John (Kathy), Neil (Michelle), Elly (Mark), Kathleen “Ruth“ (Lawrence).

 

Opa to 15 grandchildren, Brandon, Tara (Brian), Kristen (Marvin), Jennifer, Nathan, Mason, Heather, Victoria (Stephen), Jaclyn, Brody, Zachary, Marley, Kaya and Chase. He also has 4 great grandchildren, Leo and Kira, Dallin and Constantine.

 

Brother of Rita Hildebrandt and uncle and cousin to many.  Predeceased by his infant grandson, Stephen, his parents and 2 brothers and sister.

 

Since coming to Canada in 1956. Jake was a farmer in Niagara on the Lake, a proud member of CAW iron worker journeyman (welder) at Hildebrandt Iron Works and General Motors, as well as a property manager at the church and Grace-Linwell apartments for years. He had a passion for serving Christ and singing. He was a long standing member of the St. Catharines Mennonite Church and choirs as well as the Niagara Male Chorus. Pop was a choir conductor throughout his life since his late teens.

 

The funeral service will take place on Friday, August 19th at 11:00am with visitation an hour prior at the St Catharines United Mennonite Church, (335 Linwell Road, St. Catharines, ON). Interment will follow at Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery and then a reception will take place back at the church (335 Linwell Road). If desired, memorial donations to the MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) for Ukraine, or Operation Smile would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
