Obituary of Jacob Tiessen

It is with heavy but grateful hearts that we announce the passing of Jacob Tiessen to be with his Lord on August 15, 2022 at the age of 91, at Greater Niagara General Hospital after a brief illness.  Jacob passed peacefully surrounded in death, as in life, by family, music and prayer.  Jacob is survived by his wife of 66 years and love of his life, Erika, their three children Silvia (Harold), Robert (Ina) and Betty (John).  Beloved Opa to Jessica (Jayson), Joshua, Noah (fiancée Cat), Maggie (Nic), Zach and Emma; and  Opa “T” to Conner, Maddie, Ben and Emmie.

Jacob was a treasured and favourite brother, brother-in-law, and uncle to many in the extended Tiessen and Kaposi families.  Jacob was a long-time and active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, volunteer at Tabor Manor and Heidehof, and played in various bands and musical groups over the decades.  Jacob was larger than life, quick to laugh, always whistling, happy to play a tune on his harmonica, or lend a hand (with the reminder that it was the only one he had).  He will be deeply missed, but we were blessed to have him for so many years.

The family will receive friends to celebrate Jacob’s life and legacy at Immanuel Baptist Church at 605 Vine Street, St. Catharines on Monday, August 22, 2022 for visitation at 10:30 am, immediately followed by the service at 11 am.  There will be a private interment for family in the afternoon.
