Klaus Petermann

Obituary of Klaus Hermann Petermann

Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday August 18, 2022.
Beloved husband of 50 years of Ursula (2011). Loving father of Andi (Larry) Ruttan, Sabina, Frank and Ralph (Jen) Petermann. Cherished brother of Inge Wadien and adored Opi of Kristen, Samantha, David, Maya and Spencer.
On July 15, 1958, Klaus became the youngest Master Winemaker/Cooper in Germany at the age of 23. On February 10, 1959, he landed in Halifax, N.S., from where he would carve a unique niche in the history of the Canadian wine industry as winemaker for Parkdale Wines (Toronto, Ont.), Normandie Wines (Shediac, N.B.), La Maison Secrestat Ltée (LaSalle, Que.) and Jordan Wines (Vineland, Ont.).
Klaus was no stranger to Life’s twists and turns. Often sought out for his expertise in winemaking, and later coopering, he was loved for his humility and admired for his dedication to family, excellence of craft and never-ending gratitude. Also fondly remembered as an ardent Toronto Maple Leafs fan!
Klaus was the North of our family compass and will be sorely missed.
The family is forever grateful for the excellent care of Klaus by Dr. Stephen Vander Klippe (Wingham, Ont.), and indebted to our wonderful partners within the Huron & Perth, as well as the HNHB Home and Community Care Support Services.
As per Klaus’ request, cremation will take place and a private Celebration of Life will be held.
Donations in memory of Klaus to OneCare Home & Community Services in Wingham or Hospice Niagara would be appreciated by the family.
