Obituary of Olga Wilma Peternel

Olga Peternel

Feb. 15th, 1930 - Sept. 18th, 2022

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Olga. Beloved wife of Miro (predeceased); loving mother of Victoria Pearce (Jim), Brian (predeceased), Timothy and Sandra Peternel (Bo).

Olga lived and worked on the family fruit farm for eight decades. Many of Olga's closest friends went all the way back to her childhood in Schumacher or public school in Beamsville. She loved to dance, cook and celebrate her Slovenian heritage. Most of all Olga loved spending time with her family and friends.

Olga will be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews here and in Slovenia.  The visitation will be at the Tallman Funeral Home in Vineland, Ontario (3277 King St., Vineland) Friday, Sept. 23rd, 2022, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00. A private funeral will take place at a later date.

If you wish, you may make a donation in Olga's memory to the charity of your choice.

~We will miss you and love you forever ~

The following paragraph is quoted from Anne Urbancic`s article in ``Slovenian Vineland``

``An only child, Olga Farkas (now Peternel) came to the Beamsville area with her mother and father in June 1941.  The house which stood on their original 10 acres is still Olga`s home today.  As a young girl Olga remembers how hard everyone worked; but no matter how heavy life`s burden, she recalls how the Slovenian community was filled with singing, with music, with good food, with cordial friendship. No matter how strict parents were, (and the parents of an only child, a girl, seemed to be especially strict),  the young people always discovered various ways to have fun.  When Olga was 17 years old, she found employment with Bell Canada.  Soon after, at a dance she met Miro who had made his way to Canada from Austria in 1951.  Like Olga, Miro was a hard worker, both at the Dofasco plant and on the farm, where they lived and raised their 4 children.``
