Gerald Van Rooy

Obituary of Gerald Adrian Van Rooy

Garry (Gerald Adrian) Van Rooy’s journey sadly ended Tuesday, November 1, 2022.   Garry will always be remembered by his hearty laugh and playful soul.

Garry passed away at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby, at the age of 61 after a car accident.  Born in Grimsby August 4, 1961, at WLMH to Peter Van Rooy (predeceased 2006) and Diny (Arnoldina Vanden Boogaard - predeceased 1990).  Gary is survived by his daughter, Shannon (Andrew) Sjaarda and her mother Marianne Buwalda, sisters, Leony (Dave) Yacyshyn, Mariann (Will) Hibbard, Diane (Dave) Rodgers, and brother Chris (Sue Narsted) Van Rooy and many nephews, nieces, and cousins from across Canada and the Netherlands.

Garry was a hardworking, talented bricklayer and stone mason who worked for his father, himself and various companies throughout the Niagara and Hamilton region. Garry was one of those colourful, unforgettable characters that always wore a big smile. We never really knew how he acquired the fun-loving nick name ‘Elvis’ that followed him for years, but we like to believe it had something to do with his full head of hair. His most endearing love was that of his beautiful daughter Shannon, who he was always so very proud of. Garry’s life was often complicated, and we can shed tears that he is gone, but we can also smile because he was loved.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of his life on November 20, 2022, from 1:30-3:30 at Tallman Funeral Homes in the Fireside Room. 3277 King St, Vineland. All are welcome.
