Peter was born in Paraguay to Dietrich and Katharina (Paetkau) Janzen on June 18th, 1954.  After immigrating to Canada in 1956, the family moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake and eventually into a home on Lakeshore Road, where he grew up.  Peter later attended Eden High School, University of Western Ontario, McMaster University, and went on to earn a law degree from Osgoode Hall, graduating in 1978 and.  He was called to the bar on April 11, 1980.  Practicing in St. Catharines throughout his career, he started as a lawyer at Bench Keogh, then later opened his own practice in association with Lampard, Ellis and Walsh.

In February of 1985 Peter started dating Wendy.  They were married on March 3, 1990. Peter now had a loving wife and beautiful daughter, Jennifer, who he loved as his own. He was so proud of his family. The family grew with the addition of Rainer in 2016 and the granddaughter Ainsley in March 2021. She was his pride and joy!
