Obituary of Vera Goertz

Vera Goertz

9 October 1934 - 18  May 2023

Vera was born on October 9th, 1934, in Hearst Ontario to Katharina and John Rempel.  She was the youngest of five children, Katharine (Tina), Eva, Susan and brother, John.  Vera lost her father at an early age, and in search of more opportunity the family moved to Niagara on the Lake to a home on Wall Road in 1938.

On July 11th, 1953, Vera married Orlando Goertz and they eventually purchased a farm on Lakeshore Road and began fruit farming.  They had four children, John, Joan, Jean and James and the family was complete.

The entire family worked hard together on the fruit farm.  Vera worked long days on the farm, managed a vegetable garden, flower garden and a house full of children.

In the early 70’s the family got into snowmobile racing, and it was a true family event.  That love of snowmobiles eventually led to the family business of selling Polaris Snowmobiles and John Deere equipment.  This consumed much of Vera and Orlando’s time for many years.  Vera could always be found at the Dealership working anywhere she could and making sure the business side ran smoothly.  For decades, Vera would remember every customer’s name and face.  She loved that aspect of the business.

After the loss of Orlando in 2007, Vera moved to Pleasant Manor which she loved to call her new home.  She went on many trips with her children and grandchildren to her favorite spots in Mexico and Dominican Republic.  Vera had a generous, happy spirit and ensured that her children and grandchildren had what they needed to succeed.

Vera’s joy in life was renewed when she married Cornelius Reimer in 2010.  Vera and Cornie were blessed to spend many years together in Virgil and travel with the family to their favorite southern destinations.

Over the past two years, Vera’s health began to decline, and it was necessary for her to move to Chapel Heights in Niagara Falls. It was a difficult decision to leave her home with Cornie, but she was blessed to have outstanding, loving care in her new home.  Her health declined rapidly until God called her home on May 18th, 2023.  The family would like to thank the Staff at Chapel Heights for their professional, compassionate and gentle care of our mother.  They have been so kind to all of the family.

Vera is pre-deceased by her daughter Jean (2002) of cancer, and John (2003) in a motorcycle accident and her husband Orlando in 2007.   She is survived by her husband Cornelius Reimer, daughter Joan (and Joe) Hebeler, son Jim (and Stephanie) Goertz, daughter in law Elenore (Rick) Goertz-Block, Bob and Wanda Boldt.  She is so proud of, and loved her Grandchildren, John Michael, Trevor (Jennifer), Peter (Rachel) and Kendra Goertz. Katie, Jimmy, Kimberly and Joshua Hatcher.  Alexandria, Abigail and Ava Boldt.  Spencer Schmor. Great Grandchildren, Emily, Ethan, Sienna, Eloise, and Isabelle Goertz.

Vera will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was an amazing mother and Grandmother.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 23rd, 2023 at Cornerstone Community Church Orchard Campus (434 Hunter Rd, Niagara-on-the-Lake) from 1-3pm with a memorial service to follow at 3pm. Private family interment will take place before the service.
