Kathe Regier

Obituary of Kathe Regier

With sadness we announce the passing of Kathe (Katarina) Regier, nee Kroeker born on September 27th, 1930 in Neuhof, Ukraine.  She persevered through many challenges from her early life onward. At the end of World War II, because she was attending school in Gnadau, Germany, at the age of 14, Kathe was sadly separated from her mother and two sisters who were in Kaszakstan.  As a result, at the age of 18, she came to Canada alone and would not see her sisters again until 43 years later when they were reunited in Germany, however, her mother had already passed on.

Kathe married Dietrich Regier (predeceased 2015) in 1951 and they had two children, Walter (predeceased 2019) and Monica (Wayne, predeceased 2009).

Throughout her life she was a member of the St. Catharines United Mennonite Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for 25 years, a German School teacher, an avid member of the Maria Martha Circle and the Ladies’ Choir. She enjoyed her years volunteering at the Christian Benefit Thrift Shop.

Kathe was a dedicated family member who became an outstanding baker, cook, sewer, canner of jams, fruits, pickles, etc. quilter and gardener. She also loved to read and travel, two of the wonderful things she has passed on to her daughter.

The delight of her life came with the birth of her grandchildren Dylan and Lexa. As an Oma, she gave of her time and love selflessly, volunteering to babysit, always showing up with a fully cooked meal and baking her famous cherry chocolate birthday cakes. She has passed on her love of music to all of us but especially to her grandson, Dylan, who is an acoustic guitar singer/songwriter. Her granddaughter, Lexa, is carrying on the tradition of excelling in the kitchen as a chef who creates and improves upon new and existing recipes. These are just some of the ways Kathe has left an indelible mark on our family.

She spent the last 10 years of her life at the Radiant Care Centre Tabor Manor, and we thank all the staff and volunteers for the love and care she received.

We will honour our mom/Oma through Tallman Funeral Homes Ltd. with a graveside service at the Victoria Lawn Cemetery, starting at 11am on Tuesday, August 15th to include the interment of Dietrich and Walter.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the MCC (Mennonite Central Committee Canada) or plant a tree in her honour.
