Obituary of John Ronald Broadhead

John Ronald Broadhead (May 15, 1930 – Dec. 25, 2023)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a true gentleman, our father, John Ronald Broadhead.

He is survived by his children, Elinor (Simon), John Jr., and his grandchildren, Colton (Emily), Madison (Andrew), Fraser (Katelynn), Spencer (Lianne), Conner, Murron and Calan and his great grandchildren, Claire, Sawyer, Foster, Archer and Nora, Owen, Levi and Carson.

Dad was a man whom everyone who met him loved him, we were so proud to call him our father.  He lost the love of his life almost six years ago (Ella Wight Broadhead, nee Bremner) and we made him promise he would keep going and not give up and he did very well, but he did miss Mom.  The two of them were the epitome of what love truly means, and they both set a great example to all the people they surrounded themselves with.  They spread that love through our entire family.  I know this obituary is supposed to be about Dad, but Mom was such a big part of him that we can’t help but include her here. 

Dad’s legacy lives on through his family, as he lives in our hearts and there are parts of his personality in each and all of us. We were so proud of the fact that Dad raced or rode a motorcycle until he was 80, this says everything about our father.  He didn’t let anything slow him down, even when his body was, he was still trying to jog with his walker at age 90! 

We could go on about all the wonderful things he did for other people with Kiwanis and Freemasonry, but I think that the thing everyone will remember Dad by best, was his sense of humor.  He always had a quick wit which he had until literally his last moments, making the nurses and doctors laugh, and putting us all at ease.

Thank you, Dad, for making our lives more special with you in it, we thank Mom for coming and collecting you so you didn’t suffer and so she could spend Christmas with you again.  We feel you are holding hands as you loved to do and enjoying a Martini drink in the other.

We will have a ‘celebration of life’ for our Dad in Summer 2024, exact date to be determined. We will inform all family & friends of the appropriate details prior to the event.
