Obituary of Peter Hoogendam

Peter Hoogendam June 15, 1927 – March 26, 2024.

It is with heavy hearts that the family share that Peter, AKA Hoagie, passed away peacefully at the McNally house. Peter was born in Zoetermeer, the Netherlands, One of 11 children. Peter is predeceased by his wife Johanna Hoogendam (Verschoor) to whom he was married for 70 years.

Peter and Johanna immigrated to Canada shortly after being married in December 17, 1950. Peter has operated a fruit farm in Port Dalhousie, worked as a greenhouse maintenance person in Jordan Station and as a maintenance & security person at Redeemer University in Ancaster, where he was known as Hoagie. Peter was a devout Christian and spent much of his time in evangelism, right into his 96th year.

Peter was one of 11 children born to Jasper and Alida Hoogendam. Peter is survived by his brother Adriaan and his sisters Nell, Coby and Toni in the Netherlands and by his sister Maap in Woodstock. Peter is predeceased by his sisters Jo, Annie, Adri, in the Netherlands and by his sister Lenie in California and his brother Bill in Woodstock. 

Peter has five children, Cathy and Tony Vyn (Guelph), Jasper and Jane Hoogendam (Coldsprings) George and Yolanda Hoogendam (Vineland), Rick and Ineke Hoogendam (St. Catharines) and Alyda and Randy Vroom (Newmarket), 18 grand children and over 40 great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 2 beginning at 12 noon at the Immanuel URC in Jordan (2900 Fourth Ave). A reception will follow.
