Christa Witt

Obituary of Christa Witt

WITT, Christa Maria, died at NHS St. Catharines Hospital on Wednesday, August 9, 2017. Born in Brasdorf (Koenigsberg) Germany on December 26, 1935, she was the fifth of eight children born to Hans and Wanda Witt (nee Dueck).  She came to Vineland, Ontario in 1950, then to Niagara-on-the-Lake in 1952 where she was baptized in the Niagara United Mennonite Church (remaining a lifelong member), and completed her high school diploma in Kitchener in 1956.  After graduating from the Hamilton General Hospitals School of Nursing in 1959, she travelled and worked as a registered nurse until 1978 when her mental health began to deteriorate, eventually forcing her to give up her chosen career.  In 1982 she settled in Niagara Falls, Ontario where she enjoyed many valued friendships.  Special thanks go to the ACT team and hospital staff that cared lovingly for Christa, the Victoria Ave Library and Tim Horton’s, her friends and champions from the Soup Kitchen, and especially all those who visited or called her in hospital – she was deeply appreciative. Christa is survived by her siblings, Hildegard Tela Lamer, Hans Witt (Ela), Margaret Scheike (Heinz), Ulrich Witt (Jean), and brother-in-law Hans-Juergen Wiens, as well as many nieces and nephews; predeceased by her parents, and sisters, Brigitte Belau (Erwin), Elisabeth Gutzeit (Lorenz), and Barbara Wiens.
The family will receive friends at the Niagara United Mennonite Church, 1775 Niagara Stone Road (Hwy. 55) Virgil on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 10 am.  Funeral service will begin at 10:30 am, followed by interment at Niagara Lake Shore Cemetery. All are invited to stay for a light lunch and time of sharing in the church auditorium.  Memorial donations can be made to Niagara Falls Community Outreach.
