Obituary of Arthur Fleming

Arthur DeWitt Fleming of Beamsville died in his 91st year on October 12th, 2014. A celebration of Art's life will take place on Sunday, November 2nd at 4360 Jackson Street on the Fleming family property at 2pm. Visitation will be held at the Beamsville Church of Christ, 4900 John St, on Friday October 31st, 1:30-4:30 and Saturday November 1st, 2-4 & 7-9. Art was born in Louth Township, Lincoln, Ontario to Aubrey DeWitt Fleming and Elma Margaret (Merritt) Fleming on the 24th of November, 1923. He lived his entire life on the land that had been in his family since 1843. He finished High School at BDSS and worked with his widowed mother to build their chick hatching business. In 1948, Art met the love of his life, Val Shillington. They married in October of 1950 and have lived in the same home for their 64 years of marriage. They were blessed with a daughter and then 4 sons in rapid succession. Family was top priority, and Art provided amazing leadership and modelled Christ-like values. Travelling the world and being a life-long learner were constant quests. Left to mourn are his beloved wife Val, daughter Peggy Fleming Stirman and husband Greg, sons A.D. Fleming and wife Vernah, Tom Fleming and wife Jo-Anne, John Fleming and wife Glynnis, Andy Fleming and wife Tammy, 10 Granddaughters, 9 Grandsons, and 3 Great-Grandchildren, sister Ruth Fleming Scull and extended family and close friends. Fleming Chicks, their business, focused on being excellent in providing a quality product. Art was honoured by many awards from the poultry industry and his peers. Art and Val's love for the community they lived in, resulted in their support of many local charities. Art gave his life fully to God and served for many years as an elder in the church in Beamsville. Art loved working in his garden and going everywhere with Val. Art will always be remembered for his wisdom, strength and kind, loving ways. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Art's honour to the "Art & Val Fleming Fund-Niagara Community Foundation" or "Great Lakes Christian High School". ****Please Note**** As the 'Celebration of Mr. Flemings Life' will be held at 4360 Jackson Street, Parking for this occasion will be provided in 6 locations.
