Kornelius Funk

Obituary of Kornelius Funk

On Saturday, March 30 2019, Kornelius Funk, loving husband and exceptional father of 6 passed away at the age of 94... or 49 as he would of insisted.

Kornelius was born January 27, 1925 in Nikopol Ukraine, where he laced his first pair of skates, raised bees and built his hulking muscles working on the farm with his family. Sadly, the Second World War would displace Kornelius and separate him from his family.

A man of abundant faith and courage, this difficult time would only strengthen his faith in the Lord who quickly led him to the love of his life; Anna.

Kornelius and Anna’s devotion led them to mission work in South America, and in 1948 Kornelius would win the first of a world record 70 consecutive Father of the Year titles — a feat that remains unbroken. His six children; Annie (John), Neil, Frank, Lena (John), Elizabeth (d. 1959) and Margaret (Ben) expect yet another unanimous title win for 2019.

Kornelius and Anna moved to Canada where he continued to serve others in his work at Bethesda Home and Linhaven. In Canada, their family blossomed with 9 beautiful grandchildren and 12 even more beautiful great grandchildren.

His kind nature, hilarious jokes and big smile will be missed by all. After a beautiful and happy life well lived, Kornelius is finally reunited with his parents, daughter Elizabeth, and the Lord.

His only regret was leaving this earth before his Leafs could deliver a Stanley Cup, but he will be watching on the day they do, and our hearts will hurt just a little bit less. GO LEAFS GO!

A private family service will be held and an act of kindness to others would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
