Ida Geddes

Obituary of Ida (Peggy) Geddes

Peggy passed away peacefully on May 3, 2016 at Albright Manor in Beamsville, Ontario at the age of 86, with family by her side. Born in Toronto on August 29, 1929, Peggy was a singular, dynamic woman, who embraced challenge and championed those in need. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a United Church minister (diaconal), and a tireless volunteer for multiple causes. Over the years, she resided in Ontario and Quebec, Georgia in the United States, Saskatchewan and Jamaica, and travelled to over 40 countries world-wide. Many of her travels were with the Friendship Force organization. Peggy was married twice: to Clifford Campbell and to Clare Geddes. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy, her first husband, Clifford, and by her children and step-children: Carolyn (Jim), Michael (Jenny), Andrew (Kayla), Suzanne (Mario), Craig Thorburn (Cindy) and Carol Geddes (Ilhami). She has seven grandchildren: William, Matthew, Trevor, Christina, Marco, Malcolm and Lauren, and two great-grandchildren: Campbell and Jacques. Her stepson, Craig, has two sons: Trevor and Blake. Albright Manor, Peggy’s home for the past two and a half years, provided her with a caring environment in which to live – and we extend our sincere thanks to all the staff who offered her the finest of care. Particular thanks go to Christina Holjevac, Peggy’s personal support worker for her compassionate care and friendship. Following cremation, Peggy’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service at Trinity United Church in Beamsville on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at 2:30pm. Interment will be in the Alston family plot at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto. Donations may be made to Albright Manor in Beamsville, or to the United Church Mission & Service Fund (www.united-church.ca/funding/msfund).
