Edward Thomas Rice

November 1, 1939 – January 25, 2022

With great sadness after a brave battle with cancer, the family of Tom Rice announces his passing on January 25, 2022. As he journeys to his next life, he will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary Lou.  Dear Son to the late Gordon and Daisy Rice. Loving brother to the late, Dave Rice, sister-in-law’s Margaret Rice, Marilyn McPherson and cousin Blake Gracie.  Survived by brother Paul Rice, sister-in-law’s Cheryl Stewart (Dean) and Donna Knipfel (Joe) and Brother-in-law Roswell McPherson. Cherished Uncle and Great-Uncle to numerous nephews and nieces who loved him like a grandfather. Dearest friend and respected colleague to countless friends, neighbours and co-workers. As an avid member of the NRSGC, Tom acted as the Maintenance Chairman ensuring its safe daily operation. He also worked for the former Niagara South Board of Education for 24 years where he kept the local schools running like clockwork all the while breeding and raising award-winning Labrador Retrievers. Tom was a passionate outdoorsman who cared deeply about conservation, carpentry and family. He was always ready for a fishing trip, adventure at the trailer or building furniture and toys for his family.

Visitation to be held at Zion Free Reformed Church located at 1075 Boyle Rd, Fenwick on Thursday, January 27 between ­­­­­- 5-8 pm. Interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery located at 84014 Wellandport Rd, Wainfleet on Friday, January 28 at 12 Noon immediately followed by celebration of life at Zion Free Reformed Church at 1pm.

The Rice family wishes to recognize the many heroic efforts from the volunteers at Zion Free Reformed Church, staff at the Welland site of Niagara Health and staff at McNally House Hospice in Grimsby.

The Rice family is requesting donations in Tom’s name to be made in lieu of flowers at Tallman Funeral Home.
