Obituary of Helen Koop

KOOP, Helen (nee Redekop)

It is with a broken heart that we announce the passing of our mom, Helen Koop, who passed away peacefully on May 2nd at the age of 95. She is now in the presence of her Lord and Saviour, and re-united with her beloved late husband Dietrich (2014).

Family was everything to our mom. As a “stay at home mom” by choice, she took great pride in caring for her children and managing a busy household. She also found time to help our dad, fielding work phone calls and planning social calendars. Mom extended her love for people by her volunteer work in her church ladies’ group and serving at Community Care in St. Catharines for over 30 years. Mom’s cooking skills and love for baking created a home that was welcoming to all. She and dad enjoyed entertaining extended family and friends in their home in Port Dalhousie, and winter home in Florida.

We are so grateful to Dr. Greenway and the staff at Tabor Manor for the loving care of our Mom.

She will be remembered fondly by her three children: Raymond Koop (Sharon), Kathryn Ferretti (Joe), Norman Koop (Jana), as “Oma” to her six grandchildren: David Ferretti (Tricia), Karina Ferretti (Jamie), Joseph Ferretti (Heather), Dietrich Koop (Christina), Nathan Koop (Olga), Meghan Koop, and as “Omama” to her ten great-grandchildren: Tristan, Ashlin, Brycen, Shaylin, Kris, Hazel, Gabriel, Austin, Myles & Emilia.

Visitation will be held at the St. Catharines United Mennonite Church: 335 Linwell Road on Sunday May 7th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The funeral will also take place at St. Catharines United Mennonite Church on Monday May 8th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a fellowship meal in the auditorium. Interment, at the Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery in Niagara-on-the-Lake will follow the fellowship meal.

Donations to the Mennonite Central Committee or Parkinson Canada would be appreciated by the family.
