Obituary of Lydia Klassen

Klassen, Lydia - It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved mom, grandmother & great grandmother Lydia Klassen on September 9th, 2023 at Hospice Niagara after a brief battle with cancer.

She is mourned by Werner, her beloved husband of 63 years, her children and their spouses, Marv & Annette Klassen, Harold (Hal) & Jen Klassen, and Laurene and Gord Klassen; grandchildren Paul & Julianne, Darren, Cameron & Leah, Madeline, Benjamin, Sophia, Brady & Kayla, Andrew (AJ), and Jillian & Ethan; and great-grandchildren Oscar, Alice,Theodore, Jackson & Wesley.  She is survived by six of her siblings, along with their spouses and predeceased by a brother and sister and her parents Heinrich & Helena Wall.

Lydia was born in Filadephia, Paraguay and emigrated to Canada at a young age, shortly after her marriage. Mom’s life was characterized by her sunny outlook and generous spirit. Her life purpose was to serve God and those around her. She started each day with the mindset: This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it! She loved supporting the church and caring for and making memories with her children, grandchildren and more recently her great grandchildren.

Our family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the caring staff and volunteers at the St. Catharines Site of Niagara Health and the Hospice Niagara who filled her last days with comfort and peace.
